Haitian Foundation for Social Assistance, Inc. (FHAS, Inc.)

 Dear Readers,

Many sustain that nothing can empower a child living in poverty more than an education. Can a family living in extreme poverty provide education for its children? In the western hemisphere every time someone names poverty he or she refers unconsciously to Haiti as a model. What a bitter cup for Haitians!!!

As a matter of fact, compared to some nations in Latin America, there are many obstacles that prevent Haitian children, especially from rural inhabited regions from going to school. Those barriers include, but are not limited to: long walking distances from school, endless political unrests, hunger and insecurity, inaccessibility of school materials as well as corruption and inefficiency of the government subsidized schooling system are the most evocative. Statistically this nation bears an illiteracy rate that pairs with his poverty level.

The main intention of the Haitian Foundation for Social Assistance (FHAS) is to provide a genuine alternative education while helping to increase school attendance in the rural communities. Programs such as head start, kindergartens, which will drive children to a vocational school in a determined period of time, through this program a daily hot meal should be provided as an incentive for parents to send their children to class. This simple and well-balanced hot meal will evolve into a comprehensive food-assisted education approach combining school feeding with activities that focus on children access to education, welfare support for families and teachers as well as health education and services. Our hope is that school infrastructure will increase parental action and community involvement in development projects.

The Haitian Foundation for Social Assistance is a source of dream about Haitian children. The success of our project will be known by everyone since they will be a source of happiness for our unfortunate children. Our projects will also bring a brighter and real future to our entire nation."This is what we stand for."
